Photo Essay introduction...

Guájar-Faragüit, one of three villages (along with Guájar-Alto and Guájar-Fondón) that make up the municipality of Los Guájares, is in the Sierra de Los Guájares mountain range. The village is situated in a picturesque rural valley known for its steep terrain, olive, avocado, and chirimoya orchards, and irrigation systems (acequias) that date back to Moorish times.

The village’s narrow, winding streets and steep slopes are adapted to the surrounding landscape, with houses designed to fit snugly into the valley. Whitewashed façades adorned with potted plants, flowers and balconies, narrow alleys, courtyards, tinaos (covered passageways or galleries), and algorfas (upper rooms) all contribute to the village’s traditional charm. Some houses have been renovated or converted for rural tourism, but many retain original layouts and features.

Beyond its scenic beauty, the area offers a variety of hiking and rural tourism options, traditional festivals, and a peaceful atmosphere that sets it apart from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism.
