Capileira, perched high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, is often considered the most beautiful white village in La Alpujarra because of its breathtaking setting, traditional charm, and cultural richness. Its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses with flat, Berber-style roofs seem to cling to the mountainside, offering spectacular views over the Poqueira Gorge and towards the snow-capped peaks of Mulhacén. The village preserves centuries-old traditions, blending Moorish influences with Andalusian heritage, while its vibrant artisan shops, welcoming plazas, and proximity to stunning hiking trails create an atmosphere both timeless and alive. Capileira’s harmony of natural beauty, history, and authenticity makes it a jewel among the white villages of La Alpujarra.
In this photo essay, we first explore the village during the day, then in the evening and into the night.
