The Genal Valley is famous for its chestnut plantations. I think it is best visited in early November when the autumnal colours are at their best. We were not disappointed. The views and colours were stunning when climbing up into the hills above Genalguacil.
Living where we do with olive groves all around, the trees are green all year (olive trees are evergreen), so we thought it would be nice to see some autumnal colours. We were not disappointed. The walk we took was circular, starting from Genalgaucil. Climbing up into the hills, the views and colours were stunning.
The Genal Valley walk
We did the Sendero Los Saucillos, which is available on Wikiloc. The walk is circular, starting in Genalguacil, a white Andalucian mountain village near Jubrique in the Valle Genal.

Genalgaucil
Genalguacil is a fabulous town to explore. It is most famous for its bi-annual art festival, “Los Encuentros de Arte del Valle del Genal”. Prize-winning contemporary works of art are on permanent public display throughout the village. To find out more, see my photo walk article about Genalgaucil.
Photos from the walk
